Głównym bohaterem jest Cedryk, siedmiolatek uwielbiany przez wszystkich. Mieszka z matką w małym miasteczku. Żyją ubogo. Mimo to, Cedryk jest szczęśliwym dzieckiem. Ma mnóstwo przyjaciół, głównie wśród ubogich oraz osób dorosłych. Po śmierci ojca był jedynym pocieszeniem dla swojej matki. Pragnie szczęścia innych, ludzkie dobro jest dla niego ważniejsze niż jego własne.Pewnego dnia otrzymuje wiadomość, że jest jedynym spadkobiercą swojego nieznanego dotąd dziadka. Matka ukazuje mu jego obraz jako zmęczonego życiem, ale dobrego staruszka. W rzeczywistości jest to okrutny, zamknięty w sobie hrabia, nie interesujący się losem innych. Cedryk, z wielkim żalem, że musi opuścić przyjaciół, wyjeżdża. Staje się teraz lordem Fauntleroy.Pierwsze spotkanie z dziadkiem nie należy do najlepszych. Stary hrabia jest przekonany, że jego wnuczek to rozpuszczony dzieciak. Jest więc nastawiony do niego negatywnie od samego początku. Matki Cedryka nie chce nawet zobaczyć, nienawidzi jej od ślubu z jego ukochanym synem.Z czasem hrabia poznaje się na swoim wnuczku. Jego życie zmienia się na lepsze, częściej się uśmiecha. Pokochał małego Cedryka jak własnego syna. Tą cudowną harmonię zakłóca w pewnym momencie wiadomość, że to nie Cedryk, lecz inny chłopiec powinien być lordem Fauntleroy. Wtedy do akcji wkraczają dawni przyjaciele. Udowadniają, że kobieta podająca się za matkę chłopca, który chce zastąpić Cedryka, to oszustka. Wszystko wraca do normy.Moim skromnym zdaniem, "Mały Lord" to powieść godna przeczytania. Pokazuje, jak ważna jest przyjaźń i wiara na lepsze. Dobro gości w sercu każdego człowieka, wystarczy tylko je odszukać.

Frances Eliza Hodgson was born in Cheetham, Manchester, England. After her father died in 1852, the family fell on straitened circumstances and in 1865 emigrated to the United States, settling near Knoxville, Tennessee. There Frances began writing to help earn money for the family, publishing stories in magazines from the age of 19. In 1870, her mother died, and in 1872 Frances married Swan Burnett, who became a medical doctor. The Burnetts lived for two years in Paris, where their two sons were born, before returning to the United States to live in Washington, D.C. Burnett then began to write novels, the first of which (That Lass o' Lowrie's), was published to good reviews. Little Lord Fauntleroy was published in 1886 and made her a popular writer of children's fiction, although her romantic adult novels written in the 1890s were also popular. She wrote and helped to produce stage versions of Little Lord Fauntleroy and A Little Princess.

"A Little Princess" is a 1905 children's novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It is a revised and expanded version of Burnett's 1888 serialised novel entitled "Sara Crewe: or, What Happened at Miss Minchin's", which was published in "St. Nicholas Magazine". According to Burnett, she had been composing a play based on the story when she found out a lot of characters she had missed. The publisher asked her to publish a new, revised story of the novella, producing the novel. Based on a 2007 online poll, the National Education Association named the book one of its "Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children." It was one of the "Top 100 Chapter Books" of all time in a 2012 poll by "School Library Journal".
